Darrell Miklos is an American treasure hunter and explorer known for his participation in the discovery of shipwrecks and lost artifacts. He gained widespread recognition through the Discovery Channel series Cooper’s Treasure, which aired from 2017 to 2018. Miklos, who has been involved in treasure hunting for decades, works closely with his team to search for and recover valuable historical treasures. The series followed his quest to uncover shipwrecks based on the maps of famed astronaut Gordon Cooper, who, during his space missions in the 1960s, reportedly saw oceanic anomalies and marked their locations, believing they were sites of sunken treasure.

Cooper, a member of NASA’s Mercury program and one of the original seven astronauts, had an interest in underwater exploration and believed some of the anomalies he observed during his missions were shipwrecks. Miklos was able to access these maps and use them as a guide to search for sunken treasures around the Caribbean, including the remains of Spanish galleons, pirate ships, and other historic vessels. In addition to his work with Cooper’s Treasure, Miklos has also been involved in searching for wrecks related to World War II, particularly focusing on lost German U-boats. One of the notable undertakings in this regard is his involvement in exploring the remains of U-boats that were sunk in the Caribbean Sea. During World War II, U-boats, which were crucial to Germany’s naval strategy, were often involved in operations in the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Miklos and his team have used a combination of underwater robotics, sonar technology, and traditional diving techniques to locate these wrecks. The search for U-boats is both a pursuit of historical knowledge and a potential treasure hunt, as these vessels often carried valuable cargo.
